We've already mentioned 5 Tips For Utilising Local Search before; so we thought we'd continue in the same vein and give you this useful little freebie - 5 SEO Tips.
In short, SEO - or search engine optimisation - is the process taken to improve the potential of your website by getting more organic non-paid traffic from any of the large search engines. Good SEO should result in much more targeted traffic to your website. This means that your online presence is vastly improved, and the potential for sales and revenue dramatically increases.
Success from SEO won't happen overnight, but here are your 5 SEO Tips to get you started:
1.) Content is King
The Internet is known as the information highway, so you need to provide people with relevant information. Ask yourself why anyone would want to visit your site? What information can you provide? What's your niche? The more relevant, informative and well-written your content, the more likely people will take the time to read what you've written. Good content will have been checked and proofed for spelling and grammar, and will be written in plain (simple) English.
It's also a great idea to keep at least some of your website's content refreshed and up-to-date; this is where a company news page or expert blog comes in. Got a new product or exciting new company development? Attending an exhibition or event? Then update your blog, and tell the world.
2.) Target your keywords
Targeting the correct keywords - or search terms - relevant to your company or website is crucial if you want to get the 'right' kind of visiting traffic. For instance, if your website is selling computer parts, then you won't do well to write pages of content that don't even mention your keywords.
Consider a keyword like a 'hook' that draws people to your website. The more common (and, usually, shorter) your targeted keywords, the more competition you'll have in getting organic non-paid traffic to your site. So think carefully - the more specific and longer your keyword search terms, the more likely they'll convert to sales and revenue. Less competition means a bigger slice of the pie!
3.) Get links
Getting your website linked by other high-profile websites only serves to increase your exposure. Have a think - is there anyone that would be happy to link to you? Do you have any suppliers or sister companies or websites that could put a link on their site for you? Your contacts list is a great place to start, as it's likely to harbour companies with sites that are relevant to your 'niche'.
4.) Utilise local search
We've said it before, and we'll say it again! Although the Internet is a world-wide-web, never EVER underestimate potential business on your doorstep. If you haven't already, get yourself listed in some local directories, such as Google's Local Business Centre and Yell.com (the online yellow pages). Make sure your full business address - including the post code (NOT a PO Box number) - is available as text somewhere on your site. The search engines will 'crawl' the site and retain this data, helping to pick up local searches.
5.) Get an SEO expert in!
The points we've covered so far are elementary, to get you started. But SEO is an in-depth and painstakingly arduous process. It can take weeks, even months, for good SEO to come into fruition and to start seeing results, so you definitely don't want to waste your efforts. That's why it's best to leave SEO to experts like us. We can analyse specific data to find out how best to promote your website, and get results you can count on to boost your revenue.
