OnWednesday 29th June, the Design Agency team could be found on the 28th floor of London's Millbank Tower, sipping champagne and Pimms in the company of medical professionals, media specialists, a number of celebrities and…. robots. Yes, robots - including the iconic R2D2 and frankly quite scary Titan.
Whilst Gary, our Senior Designer, spent most of the night 'doing the robot', we were actually there en masse to join in with the celebration of the launch of The Pluto Appeal website, a project that we have proudly designed and developed in conjunction with the Children's Hospital Trust Fund project.
'Pluto' is the name given a surgeon-operated robot that the charity wishes to purchase for the Chelsea and Westminster hospital. It's a fantastic, innovative piece of kit that enables surgeons to operate on infants and children with unparalleled skill and control, resulting in better recovery times, shorter hospital stays and smaller scars. Whilst the USA benefits from over 300 such units, here in the UK only one paediatric surgery robot is found in Leeds.
Whilst Pluto is set to literally save the lives of hundreds or thousands of children, the actual cost of the unit is considerable, with the appeal aiming to launch in excess of a million pounds. To increase awareness of the campaign, the Gadget Show's Jason Bradbury now publically spearheads the Pluto Appeal - you can check out his introductory below.
