Creative Copywriting

When it comes to online business, copywriting is probably the most important feature that will make or break your marketing campaign. There are many techniques and tips for successful copywriting on the web. Some of the guidance is accurate and helpful, but there's also a lot of misleading or inappropriate advice out there too.

So what makes copy successful and effective? Here at AC, as a starting point we subscribe to George Orwell's rules for effective writing. Despite writing these in 1946, we find that they're still applicable to online copywriting today:

  1. Never use a metaphor, simile or other figure of speech which you are used to seeing in print.
  2. Never use a long word where a short one will do.
  3. If it is possible to cut a word out, always cut it out.
  4. Never use the passive where you can use the active.
  5. Never use a foreign phrase a scientific word, or a jargon word if you can think of an everyday English equivalent.
  6. Break any of these rules sooner than say anything outright barbarous.

These elementary rules can make or break the success of your advertising or marketing copywriting. We like them, so we try to stick with them.

Writing for an online audience is a discipline in itself. Understanding your audience and what they want to get from your site is integral to creating successful copy. Good copy will also guide online users on the journey that you want them to take, so that they arrive where you need them to be.

Because we're web aficionados, we can use our knowledge of the workings of the internet to produce creative, engaging SEO copy that obtains maximum exposure for your campaign or website.
